Lady Gobblers hope to 'shock state' at Tuesday playoff game

The Lady Gobblers (23–13, 7–4) and Yoakum’s Lady Bulldogs (20–13, 8–3) played a non-conference game  Oct. 29 in Gonzales. The game went into five close matches (25–19, 26–24, 15–25, 26–24, and 14–16). But Yoakum took the victory.

Lady Gobblers are third place in District 26. The team will begin playoffs Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Hallettsville. They will play District 25 runner up Columbus (33–8, 9–3).
“They have done exactly what they have worked for and that was to make the playoffs,” said Lady Gobblers head volleyball coach Rebecca Riojas-Fryer. “Now our team statement has been ‘shock the state.’ They are in the perfect situation to do that.”
The Lady Gobblers’ playoff opponent Columbus is ranked 16 in the Texas Girls Coach Association polls for the 3A class.
“Like I have said all season, this is a very special group of girls. I would put them up against any team because I truly believe in them. Now they need to believe in themselves,” Riojas-Fryer said.
