Petra “Betty” Bernal Ybarra, 90, of Cuero, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1922 in Yorktown to Paulino Bernal and Maria Duran. She married her beloved Fidel Ybarra Jr. on Sept. 27, 1938 in Cuero. “Grandma Betty” was an accomplished seamstress who also enjoyed knitting, cooking, gardening, crocheting and camping.
She is survived by her daughters Mary Salazar of Texas City, Beatrice Salazar of Houston, Amelia Lopez (Fred) of La Marque, Doris McLain (Dave) of Pineville, La. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fidel Ybarra Jr.; son Paulino J. Ybarra; sisters Mary Ruiz and Elvira Aguilar; and brothers Rollie Lopez, Lawrence Lopez, Ernest Ramirez and Carlos Garibay Jr.
Pallbearers will include Chris Lopez, Michael Lopez, Noah Salazar, Patrick Salazar, Thomas Salazar, Guy McLain, Jon McLain and Staff Sgt. Calvin Gomez.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Fred Lopez, Dave McLain, Tony Salazar, Esiquio C. Ybarra, Matt Lopez and Mark Lopez.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cuero.
