Festival of Nine Lessons at Grace Episcopal Sunday
Submitted by crecord2010 on
Grace Episcopal Church will present the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, the twelfth day of Christmas. The church is on the corner of N. Esplanade and E. Live Oak streets in Cuero. An offering for the CAMAL House food pantry will be taken.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is an English tradition that began in 1880 at Truro Cathedral and has become a major holiday production since 1918 at King’s College Chapel at Cambridge University.
The program includes nine lessons from the Bible that tell the story of the first Christmas, woven together with songs of the season.
The presentation at Grace Church will be done with a jazz touch by the award winning Jazz Protagonists and Friends. They include Darren Kuper (drums), Barry Brake (piano), Greg Norris (string bass) with friends Joan Carroll (vocals) and Bill King (sax/clarinet/flute). A popular fixture in the San Antonio music scene, their weekly radio show, The Protagonists Jazz Party, airs every Tuesday at 9 a.m. on KRTU 91.7 FM and KRTU.org.
