Wild hog hunt draws interest from more than hunters


The 20th annual South Texas Wild Hog Hunting Contest was held in DeWitt County Jan. 30 thru Feb. 2 with weigh-in at Friar Ag Center.
County Extension Agent Anthony Netardus has been a part of the event for the past 19 years and recalls when it was hosted by the Coastal Bend Pork Producers Association. 
While the Pork Producers Association disbanded some time ago, the contest welcomed a new sponsor this year, Cuero Young Farmers Association.
Originally started as an attempt to reduce the number of wild hogs in the county, it was also used to bring awareness to the problems associated with the feral swine.
