Gobblers play Yoakum tonight for chance at playoffs

The Cuero Gobblers went into Tuesday’s game with a do or die situation at hand: Win and they force a play off for the last spot or lose and the season was over.
The Gobblers were up for the challenge despite being down by two at the end of the first period and eventually down by five at the half.
Cuero managed to get mentally prepared for the second half run that ended up extending their year into post season play. The Gobblers amassed 22 points and a 2-point lead coming out of halftime into the 3rd period. With a slight lead into the fourth, the Gobblers entered foul trouble early in the period. Key players were forced to go the bench for much of the fourth quarter.
With a little under 20 seconds left in the fourth period, Colby Ebrom scored two points to tie the game. The game went into overtime.
Colby Ebrom scored scored seven of his total 44 points in overtime. Cuero outscored Yoakum 13-10 to pull off the victory on the road.
We now qualify for a play in elimination style tournament between Yoakum, Gonzales and Cuero. The results of the coin flip places Cuero and Yoakum playing at 7 p.m. Thursday in Halletsville, with the winner advancing to play Gonzales at 2 p.m. on Saturday, also in Halletsville. The winner of the elimination tournament will face Wharton next week.
