Awards top chamber banquet

Yorktown Mayor Rene Hernandez gave the welcoming address at the 96th annual Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Thurs., March 6, inviting attendees to another landmark event, an open house at the original city hall building at the corner of Main and Riedel Streets. The open house is slated for Sunday, March 16 from 3 - 5 p.m.
Thursday night’s banquet, with the theme of “Springing Into a Bright Future,” was held in the newly remodeled Yorktown Community Dining Hall and saw a slightly larger attendance than previous years. Highlight of the evening was the naming of Jeff Massey as Outstanding Citizen; Lorene Migura as Outstanding Volunteer; Don Roeder as Oustanding Farmer/Rancher; and Victoria Pena as Outstanding Student.
Outgoing president and also 2014-15 Vice President Amy Lamprecht gave her farewell address before introducing the 2014 Chamber President Melissa Clyne Alcazar. Lamprecht thanked her friends and family for their support during her term, stating she is looking forward to her upcoming stint as vice president. Alcazar gave an update on upcoming Chamber events, encouraging the community’s support.
