Council gains community input for airport decision

Should the city remain in the airport business? That was the question at the special March 6 city council meeting.
QED Airport and Aviation consultant Ron Price presented results of the city’s 8-month study to the council. TxDOT Aviation consultant Michelle Hannah also attended the meeting.
Price told the council the city could operate the airport itself or enter an agreement with a fixed base operator. The city generates about $35,000 a year from the airport.
Regardless of the city’s plans for the airport, Price said it is necessary for the city to establish a new location for the MedEvac helicopter landing pad.
“Behind the hospital is not an ideal location,” Price said. “About half an acre of land is needed. The right spot would allow good vehicular access from different directions [of the city].”
