Stevenson Unit observes 20th anniversary


“I can remember during the flood (1998) and many of our staff came to work in boats. That’s what a great staff we had.”
Those were comments made by Senior Warden Thomas Prasifka at last week’s 20th anniversary of TDCJ Stevenson Unit held at the prison near Cuero. He was senior warden at the time of the flood.
The first senior warden at Stevenson (1994) Tony Garcia was part of the site selection team that came to Cuero in 1992. He also attended the anniversary ceremony last week.
“We met with (Joe) Reuss, (Mike) Weber, (John) Post and attended a meeting where the public voted unanimously to seek a prison. I left that meeting bragging about Cuero and I’m still bragging about Cuero. We have great memories from here,” Garcia said.
