Zavesky joins the 'Ride of Life'

There is a big buzz that started in Victoria and is working it’s way through the United States as Randy Smith of Victoria, in memory of his wife Sophia Smith, rides across the country on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in an attempt to raise $2 million for the fundraising campaign to build a new inpatient center.
Sophia was a patient at Hospice of South Texas during the final months of her life as she struggled with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease.
Sophia and Randy always had dreams of riding their Harleys from coast-to-coast. However, that dream never came to fruition because her disease progressed so rapidly.
On June 1, Randy started on what is now referred to as the "Ride of Life." During his travels he will make stops to share his wife’s story and ask others to donate to the building of the new center.
But what makes this story local is that the DeWitt County sheriff Jode Zavesky also has an interest. Zavesky said, “I met Randy through my finance, Gina, who is now my wife. I have known Randy and Sophia just over 20 years.”
