Workshop addresses need for emergency preparedness


Hurricane season is upon us. With the season lasting until November, preparation is key. In the case of a mandatory coastal hurricane evacuation, how is the county prepared?
To find out, DeWitt County emergency management coordinator Rosie Ybarra organized a traffic management tabletop exercise held July 10. The meeting’s attendees included emergency personnel, representations from city and county government, and representatives from oil and gas industries active in DeWitt County. Several representatives from neighboring counties also attended the meeting.
“I was excited to see the leadership of DeWitt County come together to prepare and train for any mandatory coastal hurricane evacuations,” Ybarra said. “We had over 60 representatives from many different agencies, both public and private, who are willing to be partners with the county in cases of disasters. I am thankful for the support of all who participated in the exercise.”
