County looks at holding tax rate

Although about a month remains before DeWitt County Commissioners Court adopts its tax rate and budget for the new budget year, the court is previewing what it will do.
In meetings last week and Monday, the court showed what the county can expect in tax revenue and estimated what the tax rate will be.
Preliminary discussions indicate the county will keep the same tax rate it has used for this year.
Reviewing the process at last week’s meeting, County Judge Daryl Fowler said the net taxable values in this county continues to grow. He said in 2013 the net values totalled $5.5 billion and the current year’s total is $7.1 billion, an increase of $1.6 billion.
