Washington hired as executive director of Boys & Girls Club

After repairs were made to the building, the Boys & Girls Club of DeWitt County reopened its doors to all members at the end of last month. On board was Kelvin Washington, who was hired as executive director in July.
A native of Lake Charles, La., Washington is not a stranger to DeWitt County. He has been the pastor of Mt. Bethany Baptist Church in Thomaston for eight years. Before being hired for the Boys & Girls Club position, Washington worked as the facility manager at Gulf Copper in Galveston. He commuted to the church from his home in League City. Washington now lives in Cuero.
“I was looking for something to bring me closer to Cuero,” he said. “Young people have always been my passion. I’ve been a youth minister for 15 years. I’ve always had a passion for young people and this was the perfect opportunity.”
