Interim Yorktown Police Chief Smith resigns

Yorktown City Council members voted to unanimously accept the resignation of Interim Yorktown Police Chief Garry Smith at a special meeting held on Thursday, February 2, at Yorktown City Hall.

During the meeting, council went into executive session for approximately three hours to discuss Smith’s resignation, as well as the employment of a new police chief and city administrator. Back in open session, council voted unanimously to accept Smith’s resignation.

Council also voted unanimously to rescind a motion made at the January 23 meeting to hire a candidate for the chief of police position and voted unanimously to hire another candidate pending the completion of a background search.
