John Barth chosen as new city administrator

After going into executive session for a little over three hours at a special meeting on Thursday, February 2, Yorktown City Council members reconvened into open session and unanimously voted to hire John Barth as the new city administrator, pending the completion of a background check.

Yorktown Mayor Rene Hernandez said Barth is scheduled to begin his duties in two weeks. Barth is the son of local physician, Dr. Gordon Barth, and a graduate of Yorktown High School. He has a Master’s of Education designed for city administration from the University of Houston in Houston.

At the same meeting, council also discussed and accepted the resignation of Interim Police Chief Garry Smith, and approved the hiring of a candidate for the position of chief of police, pending the completion of a background check.
