Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Cuero Turkeyfest Board of Directors, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for a memorable and successful Cuero Turkeyfest 50th Anniversary Celebration held Oct. 6 – 9. The Cuero Turkeyfest board of directors, along with the support of the City of Cuero, the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, and many generous sponsors, orchestrated a fun-filled weekend for the entire family. This year, Cuero Turkeyfest was very excited to celebrate 50 years of history, heritage, and traditions, unlike any other; turkey racing, parades, grand festivals, carnivals, live music entertainers, vendors, BBQ cook-offs, kids’ zone, dedicated volunteers, sponsors and so much more.

I want to thank our incredible Turkeyfest Board of Directors for their dedication and unwavering commitment to this long-standing event. While the event is one weekend a year, it requires year-long planning to execute an event as successful as its kind, as well as around-the-clock support to ensure Turkeyfest attendees are entertained and catered to when it comes to having proper access to all the amenities and more.

Thank you to the Turkeyfest sponsors: City of Cuero, Del Papa Distributing, Devon, Energy Waste, and 5D Steakhouse/Travelin Tavern. Thanks to our Ruby Begonia sponsors: Amherst, Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Cuero Lube & Tire, Cuero Pecan House, Engine Services, Exibix, H-E-B, GVEC, Nitro, and Partners Chevrolet. We thank our Turkey Crown, Tail Feather and Turkey Track sponsors who are all just as equally important. We kindly ask for you to continue to support and frequent these incredible community sponsors’ locations as Turkeyfest is not possible without them.

Thanks to the 2022 Cuero Turkeyfest Race Team, which is comprised of Trent Kainer, Butch Prause, Joel Hilburn, and ShaNon Henson, for another successful Great Gobbler Gallop between our Ruby Begonia and Worthington’s Paycheck. Ruby won! We thank our race team sponsors for making this possible: Cuero Pecan House, Cuero Lube & Tire, Exibix, Inc. and Benny Boyd Partners Chevrolet Buick GMC.

The Board of Directors appreciated the assistance of a newly formed alumni committee, the community’s support and attendance at the event, as well as the warm reception given to our Worthington delegation, the CTF visiting alumni and our out-of-town festival visitors. This year, the Worthington High School Band traveled 1,200 miles one-way to be a part of this grand celebration. Alumni from as far back as the early 1970s returned to our hometown festival which added to the weekend’s excitement.

This year’s Parade Marshall consisted of Leslie Voelkel Campos who was recognized for her 30 years of service on the Turkeyfest Board, along with all CTF Alumni; past board and race team members. An alumni walk was taken, and a float was designated for them to ride and start the parade down the streets of Cuero. It was a sight to behold. This is what Cuero’s Turkeyfest is all about - turkeys, traditions, and family fun, uniting our community and celebrating the love of Cuero.

We will see you at our 51st Turkeyfest on Oct. 13-15, 2023. Thank you for letting me serve the great town of Cuero. What an honor to serve as president of the CTF 50th Anniversary Celebration.

God Bless,

Brenda Martin

President of Cuero Turkeyfest Board of Directors
