Boys and Girls Club thankful

Dear Editor,

The Boys and Girls Club of DeWitt County along with EXPRESS would like to thank all those who helped make the production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. a success. The play was performed at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. There were two school performances also, one on Friday morning and one on Monday morning. There were over 500 tickets sold and 8 schools were able to attend. The cast and production team worked very hard to make this show memorable. Five cast members were able to “fly/swim” on stage. This took several hours of training by the 5 cast members and the flying team. The show included 19 scenes with 17 songs. We want to thank all the cast members and production team for their hard work! Cast members included: Bailey Blank (Flounder), Hayden Carter (King Triton), Alesia Chatman (Ensemble), Caroline Cowey (Ensemble) Annie Crain (Ensemble) Landon Crain (Jetsam), Brodie Daniel (Chef Louis) Landri Dyer (Ensemble) Maria Gonzales (Ensemble) Warner Hancock (Flotsom), Kendall Helms (Ensemble) Kassi Johnson (Ensemble) Brylee Langhoff (Sebastian), Lauren Leslie-Mees (Ariel), Daizy Rickman (Ensemble) Hunton Rickman (Prince Eric), Kaitlyn Roeder (Scuttle), Kloey Saenz (Ensemble) Kylie Saenz (Ensemble) Fredric Smith-Holman (Grimsby), Malaysia Smith-Holman (Ensemble) and Allison Zengerle (Ursula). The Production team included: Director Laurie Ann Krueger, Stage Manager Kayla Pickett, Choreographer Avis Ann Blain, and Musical Directors Heather Turk and Larry Cheesman.

With the help of our sponsors and supporters, the Boys and Girls Club was able to raise over $50,000! This production was made possible by a grant from BPX(formerly BHP). Because of their generous support, the Club was able to create a drama program that has produced 4 plays: Beauty and the Beast Jr. (2017), The Lion King Jr. (2018), Mary Poppins Jr. (2019), and lastly The Little Mermaid Jr. (2021). This program has opened many doors to many children who may not have had a theater experience. We are very grateful we were able to make those experiences possible. We would like to extend a special thank you to all of our generous sponsors.
