A busy holiday season for Yorktown

Western Days Appreciation: The Yorktown Western Days Association is grateful to all of those involved in helping with Yorktown Western Days. The annual event would not be possible without sponsors and volunteers. In appreciation for their contribution and efforts the Yorktown Western Days Association will be hosting an “Appreciation Supper” for those that participated as a sponsor, in-kind or otherwise, and volunteers that assisted with Western Days activities before and during the festival. Christmas Downtown with Santa: The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will be hosting the annual “Christmas with Santa” on the 1st Thursday of Dec. 5. The event is free to the public will be held downtown (weather permitting) on the 100 Block of East Main Street. The 100 Block of East and West Main Street, 100 block of North Riedel will be blocked off to through traffic from 6-8 p.m. Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. to accept visits, and photos, with the youth. Anyone wishing to participate with an activity, performance, or as a vendor is asked to call the Chamber office at 361-564-2661 or email cc@yorktowntx.com. The Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department will be selling stew in the Fire Department facility as well as the Lion’s Club Gun Raffle will take place. It’s also a great opportunity to view the forest of Christmas trees at the Yorktown Historical Museum, don’t forget your sack of canned goods to vote on your favorite tree. Canned goods will be donated to YAMS for distribution to those less fortunate.

Majestic Lights: Yorktown’s “Majestic Lights” began many years ago in an effort to light the park and creek and most of Main Street during the Holiday Season from the 1st Thursday of December through Jan. 6. The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce will be decorating the park and creek with previously purchased Holiday scenes. Contributions toward the “Majestic Lights” project is appreciated as repairs and replacements are necessary to maintain the existing pieces and add more lighting and fixtures. Community Christmas Tree Campaign: Campaign for a community Christmas Tree and Lighted Creek. The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture host the annual “Christmas with Santa Downtown” and would like to include a lighting of a community Christmas Tree as part of the annual event starting with the 2020 Holiday Season. As part of the “Majestic Lights” initiative to “light up” Yorktown any contributions are appreciated. Please call to find out how to contribute to the fund to purchase a Christmas Tree for the community of Yorktown to enjoy and all of those visiting and driving through our town. More lights and a “big bright tree” are sure to brighten the spirit during the magical season of Christmas.

Cowboy Claus is coming to Yorktown: Cowboy Claus will be serving the families of Yorktown to insure that the youth of the community are able to share in the joys of receiving Christmas treasures even if their current situation wouldn’t allow them without the Cowboy Claus program. The Yorktown Western Days Association, through their Wagon Wheel Charities fund will be offering assistance to families of youth residing and attending school in Yorktown or Nordheim school districts. Children must be 15 years of age or younger. Proof of enrollment or home school of school age children is required as is proof of residence of legal guardian to be eligible.
