If Texas Hold’Em is your game then Cuero is the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 3 for the 11th Annual World Series of Cuero Texas Hold ‘Em event sponsored by the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Visitor’s Bureau. Proceeds from this event assist the Chamber in carrying out it’s mission of providing leadership and business development programs in the community. New this year for those that like to shop is the Shoppers Poker Run!

Activities will include shopping to over a dozen of Cuero’s retail merchants. In addition to shopping, shoppers will enjoy a Turkey fried Turkey lunch and spirits. Shoppers must collect at least 5 cards from 5 different businesses to make a poker hand. Cards may be collected by making a $5.00 in store purchase. With an additional purchase they may trade a card to better their hand.

They will return to the Venue during the WSOC event and submit their hand between 3:00pm-4:00pm. The winning hand will win a prize valued at $300.00. Shoppers will also receive a card that can be stamped at the participating stores for just visiting. The stamp cards may be entered for a chance to win door prizes.

The registration fee for the Shoppers Poker Run is $25 per person and includes lunch. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. at The Venue on Church Street, 125 E. Church Street, Cuero, Texas. We are excited that Keith Goebel will be returning as our Pit Boss again for the 11th year! Activities will be held at The Venue on Church Street with check-in and registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. The registration fee of $100 includes $10,000 in chips for the “main event”, lunch and $1,000 in chips for casino gaming post Main Event play. Players have the opportunity to “chip-up” and purchase an additional $5,000 in chips for $50 prior to the beginning play.

Awards will be distributed to the top ten places. The first place winner will receive $2,500 in cash value prizes, custom made bracelet donated by Deutsch & Deutsch and full registration for the 2020 event. The second place winner will receive a custom belt buckle sponsored by Ilene Gohmert, CPA, LLC, and $1,400 in cash value prizes. Chamber business members offering sponsorships need to be sure to sign-up for the “Last Business Standing” contest. It’s easy! Designate one employee to represent your business, have them wear your company logo shirt or hat and compete for a chance to have your 2020 Chamber Membership Dues paid in full! What a deal! Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. upstairs at The Venue.

We are very excited to have the Turkeyfest Cooking Team back preparing the delicious and popular “Turkey Fried Turkey” feast for all to enjoy. We will have runners available to bring plates downstairs for those who are unable to climb the stairs. Main Event play will begin promptly at 1 p.m. Other events held throughout the day include card draws for a fishing charter and for the hunters in the group you can take a chance at winning one of our three guns being offered.

Other fun games will include high-low and 50/50. At 2 p.m. the Hallettsville Starz will be ready for those that are not so lucky on the Main Event tables and allow them an opportunity to continue the fun in playing Texas Hold ‘Em, Craps, Black Jack and more. At 5 p.m. players will exchange chips that they have won for tickets that can be entered into a bucket drop for prizes. Drawing for the bucket drop will be held at 5:30 p.m.

For those not entered into the Main Event you may choose to enjoy a day of shopping around Cuero at our delightful boutiques and department stores or you can choose to purchase a spectator ticket for $25 which includes lunch and $1,000 worth of casino gaming tickets.
