Fear The Storm

Dear Editor,

The Yorktown High School band attended their first week of summer camp on July 29,. Though faced with the sudden resignation of their band director, this group of kids remained a ‘band family’.  While the school is currently seeking to fulfill the position for a new director, the students have been practicing and going over marching fundamentals.

They are excited and determined to move forward with their marching show entitled: “The Eye of the Storm”.  Supported by the band boosters, the administration, and the community, this group of kids define the word “determination.”  ‘ It is not about the quantity, but the quality of the performance’, says the Wildcat Band Drum Major and the leadership team, who are working closely with one another to lead their band into the new school year.

On Sunday, August 4,2019, they hosted a car wash from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., receiving any and all donations to be able to purchase their props for the show. The Yorktown High School band is one to admire, the love and passion for music they all share is the strong bond that continues to move them forward. While the search continues for a new director, one thing is certain, this band is not backing down, which is why their new motto they all decided to have is “Fear the Storm”.

Good luck to this band as they kick off the school year being led by the student leaders who have proven to have what it takes to build from the ground up.
