Dear Editor, On behalf of the Yorktown Western Days Association, I am asking you to save the date for our 66Th Annual Yorktown Western Days fast approaching on October 18-20, 2024 in downtown Yorktown. With that being said, the Yorktown Western Days Association is in critical need of sponsorship donations to make our 3-day annual festival possible.

As most of our readers already know, the Yorktown News-View no longer has an office in the city. The owner of the newspaper sold the building that housed the News-View office and plans for a temporary location in town fell through at the very last minute. I had no back up plan resulting in another business lost in Yorktown.

Dear Editor, The Cuero Chamber of Commerce presented their Cuero Chamber of Commerce Annual Social and Awards Banquet on March 7 at The Venue on Church Street and it was an incredible evening of recognition, networking, and fun! The theme for the evening was “A Night on the Red Carpet” and celebrated our vibrant Cuero business community. Special thanks to Chamber Board Members JonEric Rodriguez and Emily Weatherly for serving as emcees for the evening.

Massive wildfires ignited by power lines

Two wildfires that burned more than 1 million acres in the Panhandle were caused by downed power lines, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. Juan Rodriguez, with the service, told the Texas Standard that its law enforcement investigators had concluded their probe into the source of the Smokehouse Creek and Windy Deuce fires.

Dear Editor The family of Jerry Dreyer would like to thank the Cuero EMS and Cuero Regional Hospital for their quick response and compassion. The Cuero Fire Department for volunteering their time, and the use of the firetrucks to escort the funeral procession, thank you.

Early voting ends Friday

Early voting in the March 5 primary election ends Friday with a host of candidates on the ballot in both parties, including president, U.S. Senate, all 38 Texas U.S. representatives, all 150 Texas House representatives, and down to local races for district attorney, sheriff and other positions.

To the Editor: I am not a political person; I rarely engage in debates about the differences of what People of the United States believe it is making America stronger. But I do believe everyone, no matter which political party a person belongs to or what their individual priorities are, everyone in America wants to see a strong, safe, free America.
