Yorktown was seemingly always on his mind. Born and raised in the small town tucked in DeWitt County, Dr. Gordon Barth quickly made his way back home following medical school 38 years ago. Last Friday, Aug. 14, a thank you parade was held in his honor at Yorktown Medical Clinic. Dr. Barth will retire from the clinic on Sept. 15.

Medicine and Yorktown have always been intertwined for Dr. Barth. He was delivered at Yorktown Hospital by his father, Dr. John Barth. He later graduated from Yorktown High School before completing his medical internship in Dallas and becoming Yorktown Medical Director.

“I never knew what it was like to not be in a medical family,” Dr. Barth said. “I wanted to do the same thing.”

After World War II, Dr. Barth’s mother and father moved to Yorktown. His dad, native of Concrete, became a physician at Yorktown Hospital. His mother, who was from Floresville, was a captain in the US Army Medical Corps.

A Yorktown Wildcat by birth, Dr. Barth made his way to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he earned his Bachelors Degree. Next, he earned his medical degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine before returning home to practice.
