Serving the Nordheim and Yorktown area with (hair) style for 36 years is Oralia Martinez.
Oralia’s Hair Station has weathered whatever plenty of different storms throughout the years, but there was one she had to close for.
“I’ve been here [36 years] straight,” said Martinez, “I’ve only had to close for the pandemic.” “Other than that, these people can count on me–I’d come on a Sunday, a Saturday evening, whenever you need me, call me.”
Closing for about five weeks between April and May, Martinez stated that she was quick to get back to business, with new a few new social distancing rules. The time away from the shop meant Martinez had customers calling in advance to save their place in line.
“By the time this was all over, I had 25 people in line that I had to call [to schedule],” she said. “It was kind of overwhelming because when I went back, I didn’t want to have too many customers in the shop, I want to spread them out because of the extra cleaning. It was a relief when I got everybody in.”
Although there may have been an initial rush to get their sharp looks back, Martinez mentioned that customers have been abiding by mask ordinances and time frames set for each appointment very well.
Unfortunately, due to fears of coronavirus, Martinez has a few clients she has not been able to see.
