Western Days hosts astronomical Children's Parade and BBQ Cook-Off
Even though this year’s Western Days festival was formally canceled, some traditions continued on like the 40th annual Children’s Parade. Some new ways to celebrate came to be in the form of a virtual parade and the Texas East Backyard Brisket BBQ Cook-Off contest.
Community members came together to provide videos and photographs for the Western Days virtual parade which can be viewed on the Yorktown Western Days’ Facebook page.
This year’s Children’s Parade had the theme of “Adventures in Outer Space”, and boy were the kiddos out of this world!
Winners of the 40th Annual Children’s Parade are as follows:
Most Creative Walking: Cheyenne and Landon Smolik
Most Comical Walking: Luke Hahn
Most Creative Float: Case Franke and Broghan Owen
Best Overall: Eliot and Waylon Klein, Jillian Denton, Liam Krueger and Luke Lassmann
Most Comical Float: Josh, Lily, and Jace Taylor.
Other participants in the parade were Hanna Sanders, Elijah Jones, Avery Watson, Leyton Schroeder and Hannah Zimmerman and Myah Anderson.
Serving up flavor was the Texas East Backyard BBQ Brisket Cook-Off. The winners are as follows:

10. BFF Cookers- Leslie Voekel
The Western Days Association also held a coloring contest through the YISD school district; winners can be viewed on the Western Days Facebook page.
Although this year wasn’t quite so normal, here’s to looking at 2021 and the return of the Yorktown Western Days festival!
