Schroeder benefit this weekend
The Charles Schroeder BBQ Cook-Off Benefit will be held Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Nordheim Shooting Club Hall. On Friday, cookers will be able to set up for the event in the fields across from the hall, and sign ups for the cook-off beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a washer tournament and margarita turn in at 8 p.m.
Pulled pork sandwiches will be for sale at the hall Friday evening. The cook-off fee is $200.00 and allows entry to all categories including: Margaritas (Friday), chili, beans, dessert, pork spare ribs, chicken, kids cook-off, and brisket (Saturday). Included in the $200.00 fee is a camper spot and/or cook-off area to participate in the event. Saturday will include a silent auction, raffle drawings, and a live auction followed by the announcement of the cook-off winners.
BBQ plates will be available for purchase for $10.00 in a “buffet” style setting from the donated meat and sides from the cook-off participants. Raffle tickets are also available for purchase and are being sold in Yorktown. All proceeds from the benefit will go straight to Charles Schroeder, a Yorktown native and owner of Schroeder Plumbing who was recently admitted to a hospital in San Antonio in early July following multiple medical issues.
Monetary donations may be taken to the First National Bank of Beeville, or brought directly to the benefit to be deposited for the family with all other proceeds.
