Since all of the first immigrants to the area were of German origin they brought with them the culture of their native homeland. Even though the town was small in number there were four brass bands, three orchestras, two theatrical societies, several singing clubs, and a library devoted to the promotion of the arts.

Aggie Mom’s Club offers new and transfer scholarships

The DeWitt-Lavaca A&M Mothers’ Club proudly provides support to students from DeWitt and Lavaca Counties who attend Texas A&M University in College Station, Galveston, McAllen, and Quatar. This support is granted through scholarships; paper weights for graduates of our members; donations to student organizations; and where applicable, goody bags during finals week.

Youth Mental Health First Aid training for first responders

The Cuero ISD recently received the Department of Justice STOP School Violence Grant for safe and supportive schools which helps provide free Youth Mental Health first Aid training to local law enforcement and first responders that serve the youth in our community and schools. Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach participants how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. The training introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. CISD licensed professional counselors will provide the training. The training is free, there is no charge for eligible participants.

Free alternative teacher certification program presentation

The Cuero ISD Innovative Approaches to Literacy Grant Magical Mondays Program will host a free informational night for those interested in becoming a teacher through an alternative certification program. To be eligible for an alternative certification program, individuals must currently have or be near to completing a Bachelor degree. iTeach Texas, an accredited alternative certification program, will hold a presentation and be available to answer questions on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Cuero High School at 5:30 p.m. This presentation is free for all to attend.

Hetoldofhowhewentintovisithimandhisdadtookhimbythehandandsimply toldhim,“Keeponkeepingon.” Whatexactlydoes“Keeponkeepingon”mean?ThisiswhatwearetoldinGalatians 6:9;“Letusnotbecomewearyindoinggood,foratthepropertimewewillreap a harvest if we don’t give up.” Many of us as we go through this journey called life will at times become frustrated, aggravated,unfulfilled,andgrowwearyaboutcompletingourdestination.Webecome tiredandwonderifourgoalsareinreach.Sometimeswebecomediscouraged becausewearenotseeinganyfruitfromourlabor.Thishappensinouroccupation, community life, churches, and even in our families.At times in our life we will face conditionsthatseemlikeoureffortsareuselessandwasted.Webecometemptedto quitwhatwearedoingbecausewedon’tseethelightattheendofthetunnel. Manytimes,weasChristians,seemtolosesightofwhatwearetryingtodoandthat istospreadthegoodnewsofJesustothosearoundus.Allofuswillfaceturmoiland tribulation as we go into the world speaking of the goodness and grace that Christ gives to us because the world is full of fleshy ideas and adheres to what Satan is teaching and desiring us to do for him. Being a Christian in an unsaved world takes its tollonusandmanytimeswewillgiveintothetemptationofgoingawayfromChrist andbackintotheworldofsin. When we read Galatians 6:9 we see that theApostle Paul is telling the believers of Galatia to not give in to the desires of the world but remember what the harvest will be if we don’t give up.As a Christian we all understand that we are on this earth for only a short time but our eternal home is with Christ and will be forever and forever. All of us need to remember that courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc, without fear”.With Jesus Christ as our guideweshouldbeencouragedandrealizewhatwearedoingwillmakeadifference ifwedon’tquit.Weneedtobepersistentinanythingthatweattemptandnevergive intothewillofthoseagainstus.Weneedtofacefearheadonandrememberthat Godhasgivenusthegraceto“Keeponkeepingon”. Asanygoodleaderwilltellyou,youcancompleteyourtaskbykeepingyoureye on the goal and never let the fear of quitting enter your thinking. For anyone seeking ChristasyourLordandSaviorgotoyourkneesinprayerandaskforforgivenessof your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart. If you are sincere in doing this your life will be changed forever.
