The Cuero Record

It has been a hot and grueling summer but that has not slowed the Cuero Select Track Club from going out and competing at a high level. A total of 18 athletes made the trip to Corpus Christi’s Cabaniss Sports Complex this past weekend, July 21-24, to participate in the granddaddy of them all, the 2022 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Games of Texas.

Divisions and age groups range from 6U through 18U with competitors coming from all across the Lone Star State. The Summer Games is a showcase of the best of the best all competing for a chance to be crowned a state champion.

Prelims averaged between 40-50 athletes all looking to earn themselves a trip to the finals. A host of Cuero athletes had their talents on full display in the hot Texas heat. Several ended their season setting new PRs (personal records). Two participated and advanced to the finals, while a total of four ribbons were brought back home to Cuero.

Zaydyn Perez (boys 6U) capped off his season running in the 50-meter dash finishing with a time of 9.55 seconds. He finished fifth in his heat and was in a field with 51 total competitors.
