The Cuero Record

The Cuero Gobblers advanced to the area playoff round after a victory against the San Antonio YMLA Lions. Ending the game, Cuero scored 63 points to the Lions 7 becoming the bi-district champs. If the Gobblers score is anything to go by, these young men have a promising postseason to look forward to.

In the 2020-2021 season the Gobbler football team was unable to make it past the first round of playoffs. Having improved their game and gaining experience Cuero not only has a better win streak than last year but is predicted to have a long playoff season.

Young Men’s Leadership Academy is a newer school in San Antonio and this year was the first time the team had played a full season of football and a playoff game.

Making five touchdowns in the first quarter of the Thursday night's game was not a surprise when watching a Gobbler football game. This team has made a habit of coming out strong and running up the scoreboard. In doing this, Cuero creates a momentum that can carry them through the length of the ball game.

“We come out and play the game how it should be played and get some other guys in to get some experience. I thought overall pretty good. Defensively we got drawn offsides a couple of times. Concentration–we need to have more concentration, but those are some things that we need to work on,” said head coach Jack Alvarez as he gave his thoughts on the first playoff game.
