It was a busy post-Christmas week for the Kitty Kats, as they played four games in the Nixon-Smiley Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 28, and Wednesday, Dec. 29, and then returned to district play, traveling to Three Rivers on Friday, Dec. 31.

In the Nixon-Smiley Tournament, Yorktown opened up with a 45-42 win over Hallettsville Sacred Heart, currently ranked number two in the TABC Class 2A Private School rankings. Senior Seely Metting led the way with 33 points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Juniors Ayana Longoria and Emie Bolting added four points each. Freshman Sydnie Krueger pulled down 10 rebounds while Bolting picked up nine. In their second game of day one, the Kitty Kats defeated Goliad, 50-30. Metting had 30 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Longoria had eight points, while freshman Laynie Boyd added six. Bolting and freshman Braleigh Dodds had seven rebounds apiece.

On day two, Yorktown dropped their first game to a big, physical Blanco team, 28-16. Blanco was the eventual tournament champion. Metting had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. The final game of the tournament saw the Kitty Kats playing the host Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs for second place. Yorktown won an exciting game, 51-36. Metting had 29 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Longoria added nine points and six rebounds. Metting and Longoria were named to the All-Tournament team.
