For the first time since 2003, and the second time in school history, a female cross country runner from Yorktown will be competing at state. Brooke Turner will be competing in Round Rock on Nov. 6 and sat down to discuss her goals for the run, as well as some of her own history.

“My friend Kaley Lassmann was the one who told me about running cross country, and I just thought, ‘Well, that sounds like a good idea,’ so I joined. I ended up having pretty good success with it and I enjoyed it a lot, it made me work really hard and got me where I am.”

Turner, who began running when she was a sophomore, has improved greatly since she began; she placed 14th at region, earning her a place at state.

“Regionals, it was a good run. It’s a harder course, so the time wasn’t my best.” Turner ran the two-mile course in 13:34, beating her times from previous years and coming close to her personal record, which is 13:16.
