Vela signs with Bethel College

This past Thursday, March 31, another Gobblers’ dream of playing at the next level became a reality.

With the Cuero ISD board room full of family and friends, Cuero’s Jason Vela signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.

“I have always dreamed about this since I was a kid,” Vela said. “It really wasn’t a hard decision after I went and visited the school. Just how everyone was the whole program really reminded me of here at home.”

Vela, a key contributor on the offensive line for Cuero’s 13-2 state semifinals team last season, received second team all-district for his contributions.

As Vela prepares for his next journey, his time as a Cuero Gobbler will always be cherished. When asked what will always stick with him about Gobbler football, Vela notes, “Just the brotherhood [of being a Gobbler], being able to say I will always have someone to have my back, always being able to say I will have someone there for me.”
