‘Profound exhibit for little city of Cuero’

Though sports and athletes are on display at the new Smithsonian traveling exhibit at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum (CTHM), Eula Mathis sees much more to it. A mother of two of the athletes featured in the Cuero portions of the exhibit, Dedric and Wayne Mathis, Eula Mathis was immediately drawn into the importance and significance of this exhibition.
“You go to big towns, you see museums but never think about small towns,” Eula Mathis noted of just how profound this exhibit is for the little city of Cuero.
When Eula first went to take in the spectacle on display at one of Cuero’s four museums, she was filled with excitement.
“You have your sports in there, but I encourage every young child, no matter who you are, to look and see,” she said. “You can tell yourself, “One day, if I focus on something like this, I might be able to do something like this.””
