Yorktown High School freshman, Drew Alexander is heading to the 2A Region IV golf tournament in Corpus Christi April 24-25. He took time out of his busy spring schedule to chat about his inspirations and motivations. “Well, my dad’s pretty good at golf, so he kind of pushed me into it,” stated Alexander about how he began playing at such a young age.

With spring sports in mid-swing, Alexander mentioned that he also just finished up the JV track season, and is currently on the Varsity baseball team. How he finds the time to do it all, you may wonder? Well, according to Head Girls Volleyball Coach and Golf Coach, Irma Gomez, Alexander practices in between other sports practices, and even during lunch some days.

“It’s crazy to find the time to do the things he does,” said Gomez, “I credit his parents for making sure he gets out there and practices.”

Gomez mentioned that as a small 2A school, coaches have to work around the schedule of all the athletes, so the golf team went to their first tournament on Februrary 18, allowing for the team to compete only 4 times before district.
