The 73rd annual Cuero Livestock Show took place over the last week, with family and community coming out to support students. The new Anne Friar Building was also used for this year’s Stock Show for the first time, and an official ribbon cutting was held on Friday.

The grand champion market steer was shown by Addison Corpus, Livestock Judging 4-H, and sold for $17,000 to Top Bidders and Shoestring. Percy Torrez, also Livestock Judging 4-H, showed the reserve champion steer, which sold for $10,000 to Phase II Fertilizer, Harvey Mueller, Cuero National Bank, Cuero Lube and Tire, and Cuero Livestock Commission.

Wyatt Luddeke of Livestock Judging 4-H showed the grand champion swine, selling for $9,000 to Top Bidders. The reserve champion swine was shown by Bromli Watson, Cuero FFA, and sold for $6,000.

Grand champion lamb was shown by Joshua Prado of Yorktown 4-H, selling for $7,000 to Burda Ranch and Franke Farm Service. Jesse Harryman, Prarie St. 4-H, showed the reserve champion lamb, which went for $6,750 to Devon Energy, Toesack syndicate and O&G Rocks.

In meat goats, Jeri Ficklen of Arnekeveille 4-H won grand champion, while Briley Wieland of Yorktown 4-H showed the reserve champion goat. They sold for $6,000 to Pat Barta and $5,000 to Robert and Shirley Ibrom respectively.

Grand champion broiler was shown by Trace Zuber, Cuero FFA, and sold for $4,000 to Karen and Curtis Koenig. Harrison Crain, also of Cuero FFA, won reserve champion broiler and sold for $3,500 to Roeder Ranch Supply.

Kasen Jalufka of Arnekeville 4-H and Abbey Dreier of Cuero FFA won grand and reserve champion respectively in market rabbits, selling for $4,000 to Tortilla Flat Cattle Co. and $3,500 to Small Businesses for Youth, DeWitt Divas, ABN Construction, and the Cuero Rotary Club.

The showmanship winners are as follows: Dylan Hartman (senior breeding beef), McKinley Rogers (junior breeding beef), Ethan Franklin (senior steers), Addison Corpus (junior steers), Bromli Watson (senior swine), Parker Sawyer (junior swine), Raelee Schlegel (senior lambs), Percy Torrez (junior lambs), Briley Wieland (senior goats), Hope Cooper (junior goats), T. C. Simon (senior broilers), Gracie Kelley (junion broilers), Alexis Haun (senior rabbits), and Caleb Keller (junior rabbits).

The current total sale price for 2022 is $921,215, the highest in Cuero Livestock Show history, with $293,100 from commercial heifers, $557,400 from Friday’s auction sale, and $70,715 in add-ons. Last year’s total was $804,625, including add-ons, which totaled $111,975.
