Arrest made in connection with Mount Vernon Mill fire

A 14-year-old juvenile was recently arrested in connection with multiple fires started at the former Mount Vernon Mill cotton weaving facility on April 2. According to a press release from the City of Cuero Fire Chief/ Fire Marshal James Barrie, the fires in the building were positively determined to have been intentionally ignited in two areas.

The release goes on to mention that evidence at the scene was collected, along with fingerprints, and an item that belonged to the juvenile was recovered. Chief Barrie and Sergeant J. Hernandez with the Cuero Police Department detained and interviewed the juvenile, where he was then arrested and charged with arson.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted to locate several other persons reportedly involved with the fire.
