Bee attack results in man's death

Following a bee attack last week, Lawrence Hall, 59, of Yoakum passed away on Monday, July 1.

Witnesses said Hall was discovered face down in a field on Herder Road near Yoakum around 2 p.m. last Friday, June 28 near Yoakum. He was apparently mowing an area near an abandoned house just off State Highway 77A and was attacked by bees.

Deputies responded to the report and Hall was taken by ambulance to Yoakum Community Hospital. He was later air-flighted to St. David’s Hospital in Austin.

The man was stung about 40 times around his neck and head and was suffering from anaphylaxis shock. His condition was said to be grave Monday morning and later that day he died from his injuries.

“This is a tragic and unexpected event,” DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said. “Our hearts go out to his family for their loss. We would ask that anyone conducting work in an unfamiliar area be mindful of their surroundings.”
