Businesses band together for YISD students

The Yorktown community has continued to look out for each other during this nearly year-long pandemic.

Two weeks before the start of the school year, Yorktown Junior High and High School Principal Dr. Ashely Chandler asked the CATS Parent Organization for help to obtain picnic tables for students to eat outside on due to COVID-19 regulations.

As members of CATS reached out to businesses for prices, a sweet surprise came when three different organizations worked together to build and donate 12 big, heavy-duty picnic tables to the district.

Nitro Construction and Hilltop Services worked together with donated supplies from Apple Lumber to make the tables. Their time, labor, and supplies were all given by their own accord.

Surprised by the donation, the CATS organization and YISD were very excited to place the picnic tables under the shade of the oak trees by the auditorium and the secondary school. All of the students have more than enough space in between to follow social distancing guidelines during lunch, and may even hang out near them in the morning before school.

As we’ve seen with many other situations, when Yorktownians are in need,  Yorktownians will always be there with a solution.
