The early settlers of Yorktown were close relatives and friends and most importantly they had great care for one another. That exists even today. Mrs. Louise Eckhardt during the Civil War years wanted to be sure her lady friends had all the necessary supplies to keep their homes in order. She made sure the mercantile stayed open.
