On Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m., the regular meeting of Yorktown City Council was held.

The meeting started off with public comments, and there were three speakers. First was Morgan Cano.

“We are needing approval for a variance for a water well and septic system due to lot three and four, block 28, on West Seventh Street, not having access to city utilities. Since my brother, Justin Herwig, had his fatal accident at this location, we have always wanted to purchase this lot for sentimental reasons. Now that I am married and have started a family of my own, we want this to be the place where we raise our kids and plant our roots. This lot is in terrible shape and needs an extreme makeover. At this time, we have a contract pending to buy this land, but we must have approval for a variance, or we will be forced to void the contract. We would appreciate if the city council could give us an answer so we can continue moving forward with our future plans.”

After a few questions, Mayor Baker informed Cano, “The process from here is, we will do our homework as to what the county requirements are, and then we’ll put it on our agenda. We’ll get our homework done, and we’ll find out what questions we may or may not have, then we’ll get back with you.”
