A 'cool' community hall

The Yorktown Community Hall Board will be throwing a Roaring Twenties gala on July 17 to celebrate the installation of an air conditioning system into the Community Hall.

“We usually do an annual one,” Tammy Bitterly, the Chamber of Commerce event coordinator, explained, “but a lot of things were put aside because of the freeze, so it had to get moved. This year the theme is Roaring Twenties.”

She then talked about the reason behind the gala.

“It’s a community hall, and it’s run by people in the community and it just belongs to them. It’s a non-profit, just to keep the Hall going. The dance hall is over 75 years old, and we’ve been wanting to put AC in it, so we put air conditioning in and the funding from this will help pay for that.”
