Court to start interviewing county attorney candidates

Talks at Monday’s DeWitt County Commissioner’s Court meeting laid the groundwork for talks in future meetings. Items such interviewing candidates for county attorney, plans to build a county annex, and how much control the court wants over platted subdivisions.
The court did agree to follow the same procedure it used to fill a recent justice of the peace vacancy as it plans to fill the county attorney’s position.
Current County Attorney Ray Reese is planning to retire from that position in the near future. County Judge Daryl Fowler said he has received two applications for the position.
He said the court will probably interview candidates sometime next week. Members of a city-county airport board attended Monday’s meeting and heard the court agree to a resolution that supports Cuero and DeWitt County’s effort to ask the state for 100 acres from Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Stevenson Unit.
