Sam Uresti and Will Davis are continuing the new tradition of having Cuero High School (CHS) students as part of the Texas District officers for Anchor Club. Uresti, a senior, was the president this past year and led their convention Feb. 7-9 in Tyler. Davis, a junior, was introduced as the vice-president for the upcoming year.

Before Uresti and now Davis, Sarah Simon was the District secretary in 2018-2019. The year before Simon, Diego Rojas was the secretary. Along with Uresti and Davis, nine other Cuero Anchor Club members attended this year’s convention. As president, Uresti brought up the theme for this year: 2020 Olympics.

CHS Anchor Club sponsor, Tifani Hilburn, explained that right after each year’s convention, the new officers immediately start planning for the next one. The officers also attend Pilot Club International’s convention, which is the sister organization to Anchor Club.

“[They] have the same mission statement about promoting awareness about traumatic brain injuries,” Hilburn said.

At this international convention, the Texas officers meet with Anchor Club members from all over the world. When Sarah Simon went, there were students from Jamaica and the Bahamas.
