The Cuero Record

There are very few small towns across the state of Texas that can compare to the rich traditions and unique qualities that Cuero has spent well over a century establishing. An appreciation for what Cuero currently offers to locals and visitors and enthusiasm for what’s to come in the future has recently generated recognition that is hard to ignore.

On this month’s front cover of the Texas Highways magazine, often identified as the travel magazine of Texas, you will see a stunning photo of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum (CTHM). Cuero, as a whole, is featured in the lead article, “Small Town, Big Heart,” along with four other small-town Texas communities including Post, Gladewater, Clifton, and Columbus. All five towns are acknowledged for their unique attractions and hospitable spirits despite their small populations.

The two-page article focuses on Cuero, which is designated as a Texas Main Street Community. The article highlights Cuero’s historical buildings, the DeWitt County Courthouse, CTHM, the Proctor-Green House, our annual Turkeyfest celebration, several scenic downtown murals, and Main Street’s newest addition, The Green Cow Creamery.

“I was really delighted to see that the museum had made the cover of the Texas Highways magazine,” said Robert Oliver, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the museum. “It was a confirmation that over the many years of hard work that members, board members, and staff were honored with the August issue cover photo. Everyone has worked tirelessly to bring visitors and history buffs to Cuero.”

“It was breathtaking,” said the CTHM education coordinator Kasey Baros after seeing the front cover. “We were just over the moon excited about this. The article and front cover are what we have long been striving for, and this time it came to pass. We all are very pleased.”

The image you see captured on the cover of the magazine is the museum blanketed underneath a beautiful DeWitt County sunset.
