The Cuero Municipal Park has continued to add attractive things for members of the community and people passing through to spend their valuable time on. The newest welcomed addition is the Dog Park located at the old community garden.

Although the new park has been open for a few weeks now this Thursday, Sept. 29, will mark the official grand opening. With a lot in store, members from Keep Cuero Beautiful, the Pet Adoptions of Cuero, and the City of Cuero’s Animal Control Department will be on hand for anyone interested in adopting. Also, members of the Cuero Gobbler football team will be on-site to put the dogs to the test on the new agility toys.

In the works for a little over two years, the addition of the Dog Park brings extreme excitement for everyone who helped initiate the idea.

“It’s very exciting being that there’s not to many small municipalities that have a dog park and for us to have one it’s pretty unique,” said City of Cuero Parks Director David Danish. “I know the city of Victoria doesn’t have one yet so for us to beat the big city it’s pretty good.”

Mayor of Cuero and current President of Keep Cuero Beautiful, Sara Meyer, was also quite excited and thinks the addition will be great for the city.

“I think that once it becomes known that it is here people traveling through town will stop and use the dog park and exercise their animal if they’re on a long trip. I think it also brings local individuals out to the park to exercise their animals and everybody gets a little bit healthier,” said Meyer.

The idea originally came about years ago when members of Keep Cuero Beautiful went to the city and requested a dog park to be developed in the municipal park. The idea was put on the list of ideas for a park improvement plan.
