'Don't text and drive'

It started in Bridger, Montana, then to Drumright, Oklahoma, and this past weekend, it made it to Cuero and took part in the Turkeyfest parade.

“It” is a white Camaro wrapped to honor Lavaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Dakota Mareno. Abel Moreno, Dakota’s dad, said his son was killed on his motorcycle when he was hit head-on by a driver who was texting in December of 2020.

“The car was a graduation gift,” said Dakota’s dad, Abel Mareno. “He drove it all through his twelfth-grade year and it was one that he specifically wanted. He loved that car.”

“After he died, I had the car wrapped to honor him. There are several messages on the car; honoring my son’s badge number 911, honoring law enforcement anywhere, but the most important message on that car is don’t text and drive.”
