The Nordheim class of 2021 valedictorian, Deric Torres, sat down for an interview to talk about his high school career.

“I was involved in a lot of sports throughout my four years of high school. I tried to be involved in a lot of things, community-wise, getting the community involved, as I got older trying to bring up the younger guys, make them follow in the same footsteps that I walked with the other older guys.”

Torres explained which sports he participated in, which were basketball, cross country, track, golf and tennis. He then talked about his greatest high school achievements. “Yeah, valedictorian is a great achievement. I was kind of shooting for that all four years. I knew the benefits of that would be good. Getting my basketball team to the playoffs where we’d never been before, that was fun. Especially through my senior year, I was able to do that, and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, the community of athletic coaches. It’s been great.”

He then talked about how Covid had affected his school years.
