Fatal wreck near DeWitt County line

Texas Department of Public Safety, DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office and Victoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal wreck yesterday afternoon at 12:42 p.m. on FM 237 about four miles southeast of Meyersville.

Gregory Daniel James, 33, of San Antonio was driving a 2010 Freightliner truck and towing a semitrailer, when he collided with Jeffrey Kenneth Hobby’s 2001 Ford Expedition.

Hobby, 54, of Kenedy was pronounced dead at the scene by Victoria County Justice of the Peace Stuart Posey, Pct. 2.

James was traveling west on FM 237 near Marlin Road and failed to drive in his lane and entered into the eastbound lane, where Hobby was traveling.

According to DPS, hilly terrain limited visibility as the Expedition crested the hill and both vehicles collided.

The vehicles came to rest on the south side of FM 237 in a grassy farm ditch.

James was not injured in the wreck. The investigation is ongoing with DPS.
