Fatal wreck outside of Yorktown Sunday evening

A single-vehicle rollover one mile West of Yorktown ended with a fatality Sunday evening.

The crash happened at about 7:15 p.m. Oct. 16 on FM 237 when a 2001 maroon Chevrolet Blazer was headed towards Yorktown when the vehicle went off the road to the right; the driver overcorrected to the left, crossing the roadway and rolling several times before coming to a stop on all four tires.

According to law enforcement on the scene, four occupants were in the vehicle, one being a two-year-old child. The backseat passenger, Oscar Gutierrez, 36, of Yorktown, was ejected during the rollover and pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Peggy Mayer.

The three other occupants, including the child, were taken to DeTar Hospital in Victoria for injuries sustained in the crash. Gutierrez was not wearing a seatbelt.
