Following in his father's footsteps

Kevin Lamprecht, following in his late father’s footsteps, has recently been elected as the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department’s assistant chief. His father, Terry Lamprecht, was chief of the department for many years.

“Basically, every year we have the nomination of officers, and so nominations were in March,” Lamprecht said. “We didn’t really have to vote in May, because we were unopposed. So I was nominated by the volunteers at our meeting to be the assistant chief. Basically, I assist the chief in any operational duties at any incident that we respond to, everything’s just assisting the chief.”

Kevin plans to continue following in his father’s footsteps, hoping to one day become chief.

“He was chief for several years,” he explained. “Then there were a few years where we had another chief, and then he stepped up back in a leadership role and was the assistant chief for a while until his passing. He had many roles back in his day, in his 55 years of volunteering to the fire department."
