With close to 300 people in attendance, the annual Memorial Day service, sponsored by the DeWitt County Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 1029, along with the local VFW, was quite a success. The guest speaker, Captain Jeremy Hill, USN, gave a moving speech regaling all who had served and who had given their lives in service to their country from DeWitt County. He has served in the US Navy for over 27 years and hails from a very small town in Wisconsin. Captain Hill is the son-in-law of Lee Porter, a local DeWitt County VVA member affectionately known as “Gunny.” After the ceremony, the annual gun raffle was held, and it was announced that the members had sold over 7,000 tickets. Following the raffle, a very special gun was auctioned off and then door prizes, provided by many local or county businesses, were announced.
