Known in the community for his carpentry skills and coaching youth soccer, Jacsiel Arodi Campos-Falfan, 31, of Cuero, was arrested on Dec. 29 for continuous sexual assault of a child by Cuero Police Department. A bond was set at $60,000 by DeWitt County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Peggy Mayer.

According to City of Cuero Chief of Police Jay Lewis, Campos-Falfan had no prior criminal history. Traffic violations from March 5, 2019 by the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office were his only recent charges.

Cuero PD received the call from the family, which led to Campos-Falfan’s arrest last month, as a potential suicide, as Lewis recalled.

“An officer [Jerry Hernandez] was dispatched,” Lewis said. “When he got on scene, he received additional information that led us to conduct an investigation of continual sexual abuse of the child.”

Campos-Falfan and his wife had gotten into an argument regarding the allegations, leading him to leave the residence.

“[He] took a weapon with him and drove out on 183 South toward Goliad,” Lewis said. “Through a series of information and phone calls, the officer learned where he was on 183 South.”

Officer Hernandez was soon able to make contact with Campos-Falfan, recover the weapon and bring him in for an interview.

“He was fully compliant, no adverse actions at all,” Lewis noted.

The continuous sexual assault charge indicates that it happened more than once within a 30-day period, according to Lewis.

Next, the case is expected to be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for them to review. From there, the grand jury, which meets once a month, would hear the case. The next grand jury session should be early February.
